AdvertisementNate Smallwood for BITo some, private equity's business model appears antithetical to special education. (The average public school district in Pennsylvania, where New Story operates the most schools, spends about $23,000 per child across all types of public education. "Private equity has no place in education — especially special education," Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio told BI. For instance, two Pennsylvania education directors left in spring 2023, according to records obtained by BI — one after just months in the role. AdvertisementNickie Coomer, a Colorado College education professor who has written about the privatization of special education, told BI that this data gap is a major regulatory hole, one that private-equity companies are happy to exploit.

I spent two months living in one of my bucket-list destinations — the tropical island of Bali. The beaches were mostly a letdownThe beaches in Bali aren't necessarily bad, and some are really nice. But walking anywhere in Ubud felt far more chaotic than the romantic drama "Eat, Pray, Love" depicts. Jonathan LevinIndonesia's Gili Islands are not technically part of Bali, but ferry trips to it are popular among Bali visitors, so it feels worth mentioning. WRANGELL, Alaska (AP) — Searchers looking for three people who remain missing after a massive landslide that killed three others and injured a fourth have changed their strategy from holding an active search to a reactive search that will involve methodically clearing the highway, officials said Thursday. "During active search periods we have searchers in the field meticulously looking for missing persons," Austin McDaniel, a spokesperson with the Alaska Department of Public Safety, told the Associated Press. Rescue crews found the body of a girl in an initial search Monday night and the bodies of two adults late Tuesday. The state transportation department said on social media Wednesday that the process of clearing the highway would only begin once search and rescue efforts were complete. Saturated soil can give way when gusts blow trees on a slope, said Barrett Salisbury, a geologist with the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.

It’s like there’s no point in asking who started this because it’s a really, really old antagonism. I think that’s probably what’s most critical right now is that all of our entertainment, our news media, it’s all made in cities. And he’s really pretty horrible, and he doesn’t feed them enough, and that’s really sad. You’re going to have a flat tire, and the guy that pulls up to help you is going to tell your dad within minutes. It’s not like most books you’re going to see.

Listening to the wail of air-raid sirens, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter raced through the Ukrainian capital’s early morning darkness on Thursday to a clinic, where a bomb shelter promised escape from another Russian missile barrage. But the clinic was locked, the authorities said. After explosions roared, the woman and her daughter were found dead among green trees and broken glass, just outside the door. “People were knocking, knocking for a very long time,” the husband of the third victim, who gave his name as Yaroslav, told Ukraine’s public broadcaster. They described the girl, her mother, 34, and the other woman, 33, as the latest casualties of Russia’s punishing and relentless campaign on civilians.

He also happened to have his heart set on a traditional Japanese house, typically known as kominka, which are usually passed down over generations. “I had a vision.”Guesthouse dreamDaisuke and Hila Kajiyama transformed an abandoned farming residence in Japan into a guesthouse. He saved money by collecting traditional wood from building companies who were in the process of breaking down traditional houses. “Usually, with traditional houses, some renovations are made to the walls, because the insulation is not so strong. After doing some research into Japanese guesthouse permits, he discovered that one of the simplest ways to acquire one would be to register the property as an agriculture guesthouse.
Trump shared an opinion article that complimented his wife's White House Christmas decor on Tuesday. It is titled "Flashback to When Things Were Better: Melania Trump's WH Christmas Decorations Throughout the Years" and compares the Christmas decorations of the former first lady and Jill Biden. Melania Trump's non-traditional Christmas decorations during their time in the White House were frequently mocked on social media. Melania Trump herself has privately expressed exasperation with the process of decorating the White House. The theme of 2022's White House Christmas decorations was "We the People."
It was a choppy week for the major stock averages as macroeconomic data once again came in above expectations. That's why we stepped up to the plate this week and did a bunch of buying. Meanwhile, building permits were down 11.2% monthly (-22.4% annually) at a 1.342 million SAAR, below expectations for a 1.48 million SAAR. On Wednesday, existing home sales were reported to have fallen 7.7% monthly (-35.4% annually) in November to a SAAR of 4.09 million units, below the 4.17 million SAAR expected. Sandra L. Martin says it's a "huge challenge" to keep Christmas movies "fresh." I've directed 12 films so far, and I've done three Christmas movies in the past two years. I hadn't made a Christmas movie until 2020When COVID-19 locked everybody down, all of our work was canceled. Keeping Christmas movies fresh is a huge challengeIt's easy to fall into a formula where someone moves from the big city to a small town. Christmas movies are now an industry, and a booming industry at that.
Pat Mills is a movie director who's directed his share of made-for-TV Christmas movies. I've directed two made-for-TV Christmas movies — "The Christmas Setup," starring Fran Drescher, which I did in 2020 for Discovery Plus, and "Designing Christmas," starring HGTV host Hilary Farr, which I shot this past spring for Lifetime. When I was offered the first movie, I admittedly I hadn't watched a lot of the Hallmark or Lifetime holiday movies. Here are a few things most people don't realize about how we fake that Christmas feeling when we shoot in the warmer months. Fake snow can be a huge drag on the budget of a made-for-TV movie.
New York CNN Business —Miller Lite has quite a gift waiting under the tree for beer lovers this year: a new Christmas Tree Keg Stand. The tree stand – basically a small table used to support the tree – can fit around a quarter-barrel keg beneath it. The design “makes it seem as if beer is being poured from the tree,” Sarah Showak, associate marketing manager at Miller Lite, said in a company blog post Wednesday. The holiday line is meant to target consumers during a season that traditionally boosts liquor sales in general, at the expense of beer, according to the blog post. Miller Lite is a unit of Molson Coors (TAP), a beverage giant that also owns brands that include Coors Lite and Blue Moon.
